Sometime in the past… don’t ask me when, I recall reading/hearing/seeing something Kow Yokoyama said about how he was often inspired by nature for his color schemes and patterns. I’ve always thought about using that idea with a Ma. K build, but this time I decided to really go for a more colorful approach.
There are a lot of very colorful animals in the world, of course. But I have always been fascinated by the very colorful poison dart frogs in South America. There is a wide variety of patterns and colors, but I decided on the variations that are a teal green color, with darker almost olive spots. The variety I found from Costa Rica was stunning.
I didn’t really try to perfectly replicate the colors and pattern, looking more to make it “close enough”. My motivation from a “lore” standpoint is that this suit, though designed for lunar use, would work nicely in deep jungle. Instead of having to walk everywhere the pilot can blast through the thick jungle canopy, and “hop” somewhere else. Yeah, it’s unlikely… but hey, it works in my little jungle world full of froggies.
Purists will likely leave some explanation of how this suit wasn’t designed for that, and the antenna might break off, and so forth. And some will do so honestly and kindly out of a love for the genre and its lore. I get that.
But a few will try to display their orthodox purity to lore, and will add in some comment designed to be more self approving than helpful. And I get that too.
Still, to them I simply say 😝”ttthhhhppptttt”.
Remember, it is your model. That means something. Stop worrying about “the community” and embrace just doing what you like. If that means sticking to lore, so be it. If it means totally ignoring lore, so be it. But don’t impose your version of fun on someone else’s plastic toy. And don’t let them do that to you.
Trust me… the people who really get Ma. K will just be happy to see a cool interpretation of a unique model, and be happy you had fun.
You know… like that idiot guy on YouTube who says “if you’re not having fun, you’re doing it wrong”?
I kinda like my Costa Rican froggy disguised as a scifi stompy thing. Now I need to… hop to the weathering.
See what I did there? That’s ribbiting content folks. 🤓
