When I was ten years old, I don’t know that I thought much about the future. Generally, “the future” was the next big milestone… Christmas, birthday, the end of the schoolyear, or the beginning of it. Thoughts of what would happen beyond that were slim to none.
I recall building a TIE Fighter and a Darth Vader model around that time. I desperately wanted an X-Wing fighter, but when I had the money, I couldn’t find one. And of course, when I could find one, I didn’t have the money.
When I first saw Star Wars in 1977, I would have never imagined that nearly 50 years later I’d still be a fan. And I certainly wouldn’t have thought I’d also be building Star Wars models.
I’ve built all of the Bandai “Alphabet Soup Fighters”, as well as TIE Fighters, Snow Speeders, and the two stompy walkers. But those kits just weren’t enough Star Wars models for me. Happily, I “discovered” Star Wars Legion.
Star Wars Legion is a tabletop game, but before you go running away shouting “I’m not listening! I’m not listening!”, what you might be interested about is that gaming aside, the models are superb. Dozens if not hundreds of characters are available, and there are loads of vehicles that would never be kitted by a “traditional” model company.
And this Infantry Support Platform is one of those. It’s weird. It’s cool. The build is fun, and the painting is quite enjoyable. Build it clean, or build it dirty. The best part though? It’s Star Wars.
So forget worrying about “gaming piece”. It’s a model. A real plastic model with parts and stuff you glue. It’s roughly (though not precisely) 1/48 scale.
Whatever you do, I know what I will do. The same thing I’ve done for a few years know. I’ll build these Star Wars Legion kits and enjoy them.
Ten-year-old Jon is quite happy about the whole thing.
