OK, first I’ll address the elephant in the room, or… the Seapig, as it were. The thumbnail pic for this post is a photo of the actual model, and I used AI to place it in a jungle setting.
Am I trying to cover up the flaws and shortcomings of the actual model? Yes, of course. Absolutely. Put the model against a plain white background and it looks pretty boring and the flaws stand out. Put it in an AI generated setting and the jungle looks really impressive. The model… well, it pretty much looks the same, but maybe a bit better.
Call it putting makeup on a… Seapig. (Sea what I did there?)
Now, am I doing this because I want to appear more impressive and gain fame and fortune and have dinner in Monaco with Squidmar and Nightshift? Nah… I’m doing it to experiment with the stupid AI Murder Deathbots before they destroy the world like in those documentaries. (You know… Terminator(s), The Matrix, I, Robot… etc.)
Having said that… I for one welcome our robot overlords. I hope I become a battery for a good use. With my luck I’ll be powering a dumpster though.
Anyway…
This video is about weathering the Seapig. As with all of my work, none of it is stunning or groundbreaking. Yet at the same time, none should be difficult, even for a beginner. It might take a few reps for refinement, but these are basic techniques to build upon.
To put it vainly… I know how to do more sophisticated weathering with more nuance… but sometimes I ask myself “why?” On this model, I did what I thought was fun. I actually tossed my original vision for how it looked, and simply did what was fun at the moment… and no more. The goal became “do some stuff and finish it up.” Simplistic? Yes. Fun? Absolutely.
But your mileage may vary. And another day, mine will too.
For now, here is a video about an old man weathering a plastic toy that is painted to look somewhat like a frog from a jungle in Central America. 😄
