vlog 25-07: Warhammer 40K Vindicator Siege Tank – Assembly, Damage, and Priming

When I was building models as a kid, I recall the zeal with which I would stitch bullet holes around my model airplanes. I’d use the (very dull) tip of my hobby knife, and just keep twisting away until I bored a hole right through the plastic. Those poor airplanes had such frightful damage.

Later, a friend showed me how I could use the heated tip of an icepick to quickly bore right through the plastic. This left glorious blobs of molten plastic around the hole, and I was quite sure it was the most realistic battle damage ever.

Of course, it never occurred to me to actually look at a photo in one of the dozens of airplane books I had in my room. Or the even larger collection in my school library. Such is the life of a kid, I suppose. Life is as much reality as imagination when you’re 9 years old.

I added a little bit of damage effect to this Vindicator, hopefully with a bit more thought to realism. Still, as I worked through this, I had the urge a time or two to grab the icepick from our kitchen drawer and go to town on the plastic.

Maybe on the next 40K model…🤔😎
