Sometimes I go back and watch my old videos to help me remember how I did a certain thing… painting, weathering, etc., or to see what product(s) I used. I have a fairly poor memory for things I do in modeling, so it helps to be able to “research” my own work. Which sounds so very vain, but I swear it’s just “old”.
And sometimes people will message me and say “I liked this or that part” of a video, and if they don’t reference the model, I have little clue what they’re talking about. (Often I don’t even recall building the model!)
For a few years, people have told me they liked my “hair dryer” bit, and I vaguely remembered doing it… basically riffing on the phrase that I say from time to time about “hitting it with a hair dryer.” But I could not recall what video I actually flung that tiny, probably Oscar worthy moment, into the Tubes of You.
In preparing for a possible build, I wanted to remind myself how I’d painted the Star Wars Legion LAAT/le Patrol Transport. I’d really liked that finish, but I needed a refresher of how I did it. (My recollection was “slopped some paint on.”)
Well, as I watched that, I found the hair dryer bit. And as boring as it is to watch your own videos (I fast forwarded A LOT) that bit did make me laugh. And it reminded me that every aspect of the hobby… even making a video… can be an opportunity to inject some fun into it. Silly fun.
So… here’s a brief (15-second) but detailed explanation of the process referred to as “hitting it with a hair dryer”. 🤣
